סרטו השני של הבמאי והתסריטאי קוונטין טרנטינו, שהפתיע עם "כלבי אשמורת" והפך מאז למודל חיקוי, משלב בהצלחה ארבעה קווי עלילה, שבמהלכם מצטלבות דרכיהם של גיבורי הסרט: צמד רוצחים שכירים, זוג שודדים זוטרים, מתאגרף כושל, בוס מאפיונר ורעייתו הצעירה ועוד. טרנטינו יוצר קולנוע תזזיתי המודע למורשת ההוליוודית ובה בעת הוא גם נאמן לקצב שנות ה90- ולתרבות הרחוב. הדיאלוג השנון, האלימות הבוטה והשרירותית הם סימני ההכר של הסרט שזכה בפרס דקל הזהב בפסטיבל קאן ובאוסקר על התסריט.
