דרמת פשע שבמרכזה בוב סגינובסקי (טום הארדי), בחור בודד העובד בבר שכונתי בברוקלין שנמצא בבעלות בן דודו מארב (ג'יימס גנדולפיני). הבר משמש כ-"מכבסה" להלבנת כספים של גנגסטרים. ביום אחד בהיר בוב מוצא את עצמו במרכזו של שוד שמשתבש ובתוך חקירה מקיפה החוקרת וחופרת לנבכי עברם של תושבי השכונה, חברים, משפחות ואף אויבים שכולם חייבים לעבוד יחדיו ולא משנה מה תהינה התוצאות. סרט המבוסס על רב המכר של דניס להאן.
