לוק (ריאן גוסלינג) הוא רוכב אופנוע מקצועי הפורש מעולם הפעלולים, כשהוא חוזר לניו-יורק למצוא את אהבתו, הוא מגלה שנולד לו בן. כדי לפרנס את אשתו ובנו שרק נולד, לוק מתחיל לבצע שורה של מעשי שוד. אברי (בראדלי קופר) הוא קצין משטרה צעיר אשר נשלח לעצור את אותם מעשי השוד.
